Huawei Technologies has today showcased its latest Android smartphone model which has raised an uproar in the tech world following its withdrawal from the U.S. technology since the U.S. curb cut off its access to Google services in 2019.
The 5G phone, Mate 70, is the immediate successor to the Mate 60 series which was launched August, 2023 with striking features that make it stand out amongst its peers.
According to the Chairman of Huawei’s consumer business group, Richard Yu, the phone is the ‘most powerful Mate phone ever’ with diversified features.
He said: “it is the first mainstream smartphone to include a satellite paying system, has an improved processor and runs on Huawei’s own HarmonyOS NEXT operating system, which together boost performance by 40% compared to previous model.”
As a significant step towards software independence, HarmonyOS NEXT is the company’s Android-free version substitute of its operating system which began testing this year.
So far, Huawei has been reported to have secured 15, 000 applications for its HarmonyOS ecosystem while planning to expand to 100,000 apps in coming months.
Meanwhile, Yu added that Mate 70 series will start at 5,499 yun ($758) as Apple’s base iPhone 16 model sells for 5,999 yuan in China.
