The Walrus Core team at Mysten Labs stands at the forefront of this mission, leading the development of Walrus, the company’s newest distributed system, an advanced, efficient decentralized storage network.

The Core team focuses on creating and maintaining the software that powers Walrus’ storage nodes and underlying infrastructure.

Its primary objective is to enhance the safety, reliability, and utility of the Walrus network, ensuring it meets the highest standards of performance for builders and developers across the web3 ecosystem.

Mysten Labs seeks engineers who are passionate about systems programming in all its dimensions, whether in storage systems, distributed systems, or low-level performance optimization.

These engineers will contribute to the design and evolution of the Walrus core protocol, improve the network’s performance and reliability, and ensure secure, efficient operations. Their work will play a key role in advancing Mysten Labs’ broader web3 ecosystem strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain the Walrus core, including storage nodes, client software, smart contracts, and toolchains supporting the Walrus infrastructure.
  • Collaborate closely with the research, cryptography, production, security, and Sui core teams to ensure the Walrus network remains secure, high-performing, and reliable.
  • Optimize existing systems for scalability, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Work alongside other teams at Mysten Labs to integrate new features and emerging technologies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in systems and/or network programming, preferably in Rust, C, or C++.
  • Proven background in designing and developing systems in one or more areas: distributed systems and consensus protocols, storage/database systems, high-performance computing, or networking protocols.
  • Demonstrated production experience, including system monitoring, alerting, and reliability management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong ability to manage and complete complex technical projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Rust.
  • Prior experience with blockchain technologies or cryptographic protocols.
  • Meaningful contributions to open-source projects.
  • Formal or informal research experience (MSc/PhD) in relevant computer science disciplines.
