South African generative artificial intelligence (AI) startup, HyperDev, has secured over US$1 million in pre-seed funding from a network of venture capital investors across Europe and the United Kingdom. This marks a significant milestone for the fast-growing software development platform as it approaches 100,000 users.

The investment comes at a time when AI-assisted coding is reshaping software development worldwide, with businesses, developers and entrepreneurs increasingly relying on large language models (LLMs) to accelerate the creation of digital products.

Rather than competing solely on code generation, HyperDev is positioning itself as a platform that addresses the often-overlooked challenge of transforming AI-generated code into fully functional software.

Its founders believe the industry’s biggest hurdle is no longer writing code but ensuring that the generated code works efficiently in real-world applications.

“Every AI coding tool on the market was built on the assumption that generating code was the hard part,” said Piotr Sobolewski, Chief Technical Officer and Co-Founder at HyperDev. “We built HyperDev because we knew the hard part was what came after, and nobody else seems to be solving that.”

What is HyperDev?

HyperDev is a South African startup developing a generative AI-powered software development platform that enables users to build websites, mobile applications and other digital products more quickly while maintaining ownership and control of their source code.

The company began testing its alpha versions in 2025 before releasing Version 11 earlier this year to a closed ecosystem of aspiring developers.

Unlike many AI coding assistants that simply generate snippets of code, HyperDev combines AI-powered code generation with tools designed to help users organise, refine and deploy complete software projects.

The platform also seeks to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical users by enabling entrepreneurs with little or no programming experience to generate software prototypes using AI before collaborating with professional developers to complete production-ready applications.

The Problem HyperDev is Trying to Solve

Although generative AI has dramatically reduced the time required to write computer code, HyperDev argues that producing code is only one part of the software development process.

Developers often spend considerably more time debugging, integrating different components, correcting errors, testing applications and preparing software for deployment than they do writing the initial code itself. These post-generation tasks remain challenging even when AI tools are used.

Recognising this gap, HyperDev has built its platform around helping users navigate the complex stages that follow AI-generated coding. As Sobolewski explained, the company believes the real bottleneck begins after code has already been produced.

“Every AI coding tool on the market was built on the assumption that generating code was the hard part. We built HyperDev because we knew the hard part was what came after, and nobody else seems to be solving that,” he said.

By focusing on software completion rather than code generation alone, HyperDev hopes to make AI-assisted development more practical for both experienced programmers and newcomers.

Guided Mode: What It Means

At the centre of HyperDev’s platform is its proprietary AI feature known as Guided Mode.

According to the company, Guided Mode helps users make better use of code generated by large language models by providing structured assistance throughout the software development process.

So, instead of simply producing blocks of code, the feature guides users towards building fully functioning websites, applications and other software solutions more efficiently.

The technology is also designed to simplify software creation for individuals without technical backgrounds. Users can leverage AI to generate an initial version of their software and subsequently hire professional developers through the platform to complete, customise or improve the final product.

This approach broadens access to software development by reducing technical barriers while maintaining opportunities for collaboration between AI and human developers.

HyperDev’s Milestone and Growing Traction

The latest funding announcement comes as HyperDev approaches 100,000 users, highlighting growing interest in AI-powered software development tools.

The startup’s progress has been driven by steady product development since its alpha launch in 2025 and the rollout of Version 11 earlier this year.

Even though the platform remains relatively young, the combination of user growth and investor backing suggests increasing confidence in its long-term potential.

The newly secured pre-seed investment will likely support product development, technology research, team expansion and wider market adoption as HyperDev continues scaling its platform.

Why Investors Are Betting on HyperDev

Beyond user growth, investors believe HyperDev stands out because it is developing proprietary AI technology rather than relying solely on existing large language models.

Falk Albers, Managing Director at Reinsurance Intelligence Quotient (RIQ) and General Partner at Loom Ventures, said the company combines advanced AI research with access to a rapidly expanding developer community.

“We backed HyperDev because they combine genuine AI R&D depth with a built-in distribution channel of millions of developers,” Albers said.

He added that many competing AI coding tools merely build lightweight products on top of third-party language models, whereas HyperDev is creating its own technologies that make AI-generated code significantly more useful.

“While most vibe coding tools are thin wrappers around third-party LLMs, HyperDev is building proprietary technology that makes code generation actually useful. That combination of real tech and built-in distribution is rare at any stage, at pre-seed, it’s exceptional,” he said.

Why This Matters

HyperDev’s latest funding underscores the growing confidence investors have in startups building practical AI applications rather than simply adopting existing AI models.

As generative AI becomes increasingly integrated into software engineering, platforms capable of helping users transform AI-generated code into deployable products could play an important role in the future of application development.

For Africa’s technology ecosystem, HyperDev’s success also highlights the continent’s expanding contribution to the global AI landscape.

The company’s ability to attract international venture capital while building solutions for both developers and non-technical entrepreneurs demonstrates the increasing competitiveness of African AI startups in solving real-world problems.

With fresh capital, a rapidly expanding user community and a differentiated approach to AI-assisted software development, HyperDev is positioning itself to become one of Africa’s emerging players in the global generative AI industry.

Talking Points

HyperDev’s approach reflects a notable shift in the AI-assisted software development landscape by focusing on one of the industry’s biggest pain points, turning AI-generated code into reliable, production-ready applications.

While many AI coding platforms primarily emphasize rapid code generation, HyperDev differentiates itself by helping users refine, manage and deploy that code through its proprietary Guided Mode, enabling both developers and non-technical entrepreneurs to move from ideas to functional software more efficiently.

This strategy not only addresses practical workflow challenges but also expands access to software creation for a broader audience.

Combined with its growing user base, nearly 100,000 users, and the confidence demonstrated by international investors through its US$1 million pre-seed funding, HyperDev appears well-positioned to strengthen Africa’s presence in the global generative AI ecosystem.

However, its long-term success will ultimately depend on how effectively it scales its technology, maintains code quality, and competes in an increasingly crowded AI coding market.
