Lumi Business, a Lagos-based provider of payment, inventory, and accounting management software has launched Offline Mode, an upgrade to its point-of-sale (POS) software that allows merchants to process transactions without internet connectivity.

With Offline Mode, merchants can now sell products, access pricing, issue receipts and track inventory even when disconnected. Once connectivity is restored, all data syncs to your online database, ensuring no loss, or duplication.

In a report seen by Techparley, Lumi Business CEO Wale Adeniji said the new Offline Mode reinforces the company’s commitment to helping merchants succeed, regardless of their location or sales environment.

“We built Offline Mode with the realities of our merchants in mind. We know internet outages can bring business to a standstill. With this release, we are ensuring that no merchant ever has to lose a sale or pause operations because of poor connectivity,” Adeniji said.

How Lumi’s Offline Mode Works

Lumi’s Offline Mode delivers offline-first capabilities. Merchants can view product listings, apply real-time pricing, issue receipts, and complete full transactions without internet access.

All sales data, inventory adjustments, and customer details are stored locally during the outage. Once the device reconnects to the internet, Lumi’s engine automatically syncs all offline activity to the cloud database.

According to Lumi, key functions available in Offline Mode include:

  • Processing transactions without an internet connection
  • Issuing digital or printed receipts
  • Instant access to product and pricing databases
  • Automatic background syncing when reconnected
  • Multi-device compatibility across stores and locations

Rollout Plans and Access for Merchants

Currently, Offline Mode is available on Windows-powered devices, with Android and iOS versions in advanced stages of development. Lumi has opened a waitlist for merchants who want early access to the mobile versions.

Businesses interested in testing the feature can contact Lumi’s Customer Success Team to get started or join the rollout programme.

Lumi’s Broader Vision

The platform currently serves SMEs across Nigeria with an integrated solution that includes point-of-sale, inventory management, payments, expense tracking, loyalty tools, and branded e-commerce storefronts.

Integration with food delivery platforms like Chowdeck allows restaurants and food vendors to unify delivery orders, inventory, and sales data in one streamlined workflow.

In addition, Lumi offers businesses tools for expense management, performance tracking, and customer loyalty, all synchronised through its secure cloud backend.

Shaping Africa’s Digital Commerce

Offline Mode is the latest in a growing suite of features that position Lumi Business as more than just a POS provider.

As the company continues to refine its offerings, industry observers say this move further cements Lumi’s role in shaping the digital infrastructure of commerce in sub-Saharan Africa.

With its deep understanding of the challenges facing African SMEs, Lumi Business is not just offering software, it’s offering stability, reliability, and a path to scale.

Talking Points

Lumi Business has taken a bold and necessary step with the launch of Offline Mode, directly confronting one of the biggest hurdles facing Nigerian SMEs, unreliable internet access.

By allowing merchants to sell, access pricing, issue receipts, and track inventory without connectivity, Lumi is solving a deeply rooted operational problem for thousands of small retailers, mobile vendors, and rural businesses.

At Techparley, we view this move as a practical response to Africa’s infrastructural realities, bridging the gap between digital ambition and everyday business constraints.

The ability to sync all offline transactions seamlessly to the cloud once the internet is restored ensures that merchants don’t lose data or time. This is essential for multi-location stores, field-based sellers, and growing brands that rely on accurate reporting.

That said, the success of Offline Mode will depend on how it integrates into merchants’ existing workflows. Training, accessibility, and proactive customer support will be vital to achieving long-term adoption and impact.

Looking ahead, Lumi has an opportunity to lead in building commerce infrastructure for Africa’s informal economy. Offline Mode could become a game-changer for digital resilience across the continent.
