Africa’s fast-growing tech ecosystem is set for a major test of innovation as Data Science Nigeria (DSN) launches the Wokkahthon Challenge, calling on bold innovators to build 20 artificial intelligence (AI) agents in just 30 days.
From August 15 to September 14, 2025, and with a prize pool of ₦800,000 ($520) and career-launching perks, the challenge aims to deliver AI-driven solutions to real-world African problems.
“This is not just a competition; it’s a gateway for Africans to shape the continent’s future with technology,” said DSN’s spokesperson.
A High-Stakes Competition
The challenge will reward three winners, each receiving ₦100,000 cash plus varying incentives.
The first-place winner will also claim ₦500,000 worth of extras, including access to global projects, remote work opportunities, and specialized learning resources.
The second-place winner will gain exposure through platform features and beta tool access, while the third-place winner will receive early access perks, networking opportunities, and community recognition.
Beyond Prizes: Career Acceleration
Organizers stress that the competition goes far beyond cash rewards.
Winners will enjoy remote work opportunities and exclusive access to the Wokkah platform, designed to provide global visibility and career growth.
“We want to create a generation of African innovators who don’t just participate in the global AI revolution but lead it,” DSN added.
Building Solutions for Africa
The challenge comes at a time when Africa faces pressing issues in healthcare, education, agriculture, and financial inclusion.
By encouraging rapid innovation, DSN hopes to see AI agents that tackle problems such as access to healthcare in rural areas, digital learning gaps, and efficient farming systems.
Experts note that Africa’s AI industry is projected to grow by over 30% annually, making initiatives like Wokkahthon critical for harnessing local talent.
