The Nigerian Fintech Awards has announced ALAT By Wema winner 2022 best mobile app in a keenly contested award category, featuring other banking apps on the shortlist.
The announcement was made at the award ceremony in Lagos, on Friday, November 4, 2022.
Founded in 2012, the Nigerian Fintech Awards is dedicated to honouring excellence as well as providing public recognition for the achievements of Fintech companies and products in many categories.
Olusegun Adeniyi, Chief Digital Officer, Wema Bank, confirmed the development, in a press statement forwarded to Ripples Nigeria on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
Adeniyi, while commenting on the development, described the award as a compliment to Wema, adding to other awards earlier received by the financial institution.
He said:
ALAT By Wema, which is claimed to be the first fully digital bank in Nigeria, was launched in May 2017 by Wema Bank Plc to drive transformation and redefine experiential banking in the Nigerian banking sector.
At the event, VULTe by Polaris Bank received honorary awards as the Best Digital Bank for BusinessDAY’s Banks and Other Financial Institutions Awards categories.
Ripples Nigeria gathered that the Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Bank Plc, Abubakar Suleiman, who was a keynote speaker at the event, was also awarded the 2022 Special Leadership Award, to recognise Sterling’s innovative contributions to financial technology in the country.
Other top personalities awarded include the founder and Executive Vice Chairman, Computer Warehouse Group Plc, Austin Okere; the co-founder and CEO of Precise Financial Systems, Dr Yele Okeremi; the founder of Future Africa, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji.
