Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has revealed his superb techno-optimistic vision for the future of artificial intelligence.
He predicts a world where AI mitigates its risks and transforms industries and societies in ways once thought unimaginable.
He made this prediction in a 15,000 word essay published on his blog late Friday.
“My basic prediction is that AI-enabled biology and medicine will allow us to compress the progress that human biologists would have achieved over the next 50-100 years into 5-10 years,” he wrote.
He suggested that breakthroughs in treating infectious diseases, cancers, and genetic disorders could become commonplace in the next decade.
He added that AI-developed drugs will be able to tune cognitive function and emotional state, potentially doubling the average human lifespan to 150 years.
In his prediction, Amodei envisions a near-future as early as 2026 in which AI smarter than Nobel Prize winners will revolutionize fields like biology, engineering, and mathematics.
This AI, according to him, would be capable of proving unsolved theorems, writing novels, and controlling machinery better than humans.
“This AI can engage in any actions, communications, or remote operations… including taking or giving directions to humans, ordering materials, directing experiments, watching videos, making videos, and so on,” he stated.
But for all the optimism, skeptics remain. The gap between today’s AI and the human-like reasoning Amodei anticipates is significant.
The limitations of current AI and robotics suggest that achieving such capabilities might be more difficult than he admits.
Nevertheless, Amodei believes that even fields like PTSD, depression, and schizophrenia will be cured in the next 5-10 years with AI-concocted treatments.
