DAWN AI STUDY is set to receive $100,000 in equity-free funding and extensive technical, advisory and ecosystem support through the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship, as the Nigerian education technology startup moves to expand its AI-powered approach to supporting neurodivergent learners.

The 18-month programme, delivered in Nigeria by CcHUB, is designed to help early-stage EdTech companies improve their products, test solutions in real-world educational environments and build sustainable businesses.

For DAWN AI STUDY, the fellowship will provide a 12-month intensive incubation phase followed by six months of post-incubation growth support.

According to founder Victor Ogunbiyi, the opportunity will provide the startup with the “credibility, capital, and institutional backing.”

These are required to advance the startup’s mission of equity and disability inclusion while ensuring that early screening powered by AIDA reaches underserved learners.

Why is this matter for DAWN AI STUDY

The Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship will support DAWN AI STUDY beyond financial assistance by helping the startup improve both its technology and the way it is applied to education.

During the programme, the company will receive expert guidance in learning science, human-centred design and inclusive technology, particularly in relation to neurodivergent learners.

This means DAWN AI STUDY will have access to specialists who can help ensure that its solution is not only technologically functional but also appropriate for the different ways children learn and interact with educational systems.

A major part of this support will involve testing AIDA in real-world K-12 and special education environments. Rather than developing the technology in isolation, the startup will have access to pilot frameworks that can help determine how effectively AIDA works when used by actual schools, teachers and learners.

The programme will also provide technical assistance around distribution, investor readiness and policy integration, helping DAWN AI STUDY determine how its solution can move from an early-stage product into a service capable of reaching a much larger number of learners.

Funding and access to experts, partners and investors

One of the most significant benefits of the fellowship for DAWN AI STUDY is the $100,000 in equity-free funding.

Unlike conventional startup investment, where an entrepreneur may have to surrender a percentage of ownership in exchange for capital, equity-free funding allows the company to receive financial support without giving up ownership of the business.

This could provide DAWN AI STUDY with important resources to improve AIDA, conduct pilots and prepare the company for wider expansion.

Beyond the funding, the startup will gain access to multidisciplinary experts in AI engineering, inclusive design, learning science and corporate governance.

These areas are particularly important for a company developing technology for education and neurodivergent learners because success requires more than building an AI system.

The company must also understand educational needs, user experience, governance and responsible deployment. DAWN AI STUDY will additionally receive introductions to institutional education partners, government stakeholders, impact investors and distribution channels.

Its participation will also provide visibility through major sector events and media platforms, allowing it to showcase its “neuro-inclusive solutions” to a wider audience.

DAWN AI STUDY targets thousands of neurodivergent learners

Following the fellowship, DAWN AI STUDY plans to move beyond its early pilot stage and secure commercial contracts with K-12 school networks.

The company’s ambition is to use AIDA to screen and support thousands of neurodivergent learners while simultaneously providing tools that enable the adults responsible for their education and care to better understand and support them. This includes parents, teachers, Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCOs) and school districts.

The approach reflects the company’s broader objective of creating a support system around neurodivergent learners rather than simply offering them a standalone technology product.

Early screening, according to the information provided by Ogunbiyi, is intended to help identify learners who may require additional educational support, while the wider platform can help those working with them respond appropriately.

The fellowship’s field-testing component will therefore be important in determining how AIDA performs in practical educational settings and how it can be refined based on the experiences of learners, educators and caregivers.

Ultimately, DAWN AI STUDY wants to transition from limited pilots to wider adoption across school networks.

Sustainable revenue and wider African expansion

DAWN AI STUDY’s post-fellowship strategy also includes building a financially sustainable business.

Ogunbiyi said the company intends to achieve cash-flow sustainability through scalable business-to-business school subscriptions while securing follow-on investment rounds to finance additional growth.

Under this model, schools and school networks would pay recurring subscriptions to access DAWN AI STUDY’s solutions, creating a predictable revenue stream as the company’s user base expands.

The founder also views Mastercard Foundation’s involvement as an important validation of the company’s mission.

According to Ogunbiyi, “The Mastercard Foundation validates DAWN AI STUDY’s core mission of equity and disability inclusion.”

He believes the foundation’s financial support, expertise and institutional connections can help the startup address one of the major challenges facing neurodivergent learners: limited access to early identification and appropriate educational support.

With the additional backing, DAWN AI STUDY aims to ensure that AIDA can reach underserved learners while extending post-screening support to parents, SENCOs, teachers and school districts.

In the longer term, the startup hopes the combination of technology, institutional partnerships and sustainable commercial models will allow its neuro-inclusive education solution to expand beyond Nigeria and contribute to more inclusive learning systems across Africa.
