Mbakeh Solutions, an early-stage innovation venture founded in The Gambia, is developing a portfolio of technology-driven initiatives aimed at addressing practical challenges in education, youth leadership, civic participation and community development across Africa.

Founded late last year by Modoulamin Mbakeh, the self-funded venture is pursuing a distinctly African approach to innovation by combining technology, educational storytelling and systems thinking to create solutions rooted in local realities.

Its emerging portfolio includes KAIRO, a story-driven educational game inspired by Gambian culture; The Gambia Reset Project, a civic leadership initiative focused on youth empowerment and community action; and Ocean Gambia, a digital logistics concept designed to improve drinking-water distribution.

“Although these projects are at different stages of development, they all share one purpose, using innovation and technology to solve practical African challenges,” Mbakeh disclosed.

What to Know About Mbakeh Solutions

Mbakeh Solutions is a young Gambian innovation initiative established by Modoulamin Mbakeh to explore how technology can be applied to real-world challenges affecting African communities.

Rather than focusing on a single product or industry, the venture is developing several projects spanning education, civic engagement and logistics. Its approach is built around the belief that technology should respond to the realities of the communities it serves.

The company is also seeking to encourage young Africans to move beyond simply consuming digital products and develop the capacity to create their own solutions.

Mbakeh said the venture was established after observing that many digital products used across Africa are designed outside the continent and do not always reflect “African realities, culture, education, and local needs.”

The company is therefore positioning itself around locally informed innovation and African-led problem-solving.

The Pain Points in Mbakeh Solutions’ Focus

The problems Mbakeh Solutions is targeting cut across several areas of everyday African life. In education, the venture sees an opportunity to make learning more engaging and culturally relevant for children through digital storytelling and gaming.

In youth development, it is addressing the need for greater civic participation, responsible citizenship, environmental awareness and community leadership.

Its Ocean Gambia concept focuses on another practical challenge, the movement of processed drinking water from factories through distributors to consumers.

These problems may appear unrelated, but Mbakeh Solutions views them through a common lens: the need for locally appropriate and technology-enabled solutions.

The founder explained that the projects were created around a broader objective of “using innovation and technology to solve practical African challenges,” rather than simply developing technology for its own sake.

KAIRO Brings African Culture Into Digital Learning

One of the most distinctive projects in the portfolio is KAIRO, a story-driven educational game and interactive learning platform inspired by Gambian culture.

The initiative is intended for children in Africa as well as members of the African diaspora, potentially providing a digital learning experience that connects education with African stories, culture and experiences.

The concept reflects Mbakeh Solutions’ wider argument that educational technology can be more meaningful when it is designed with its target users’ cultural environment in mind.

Instead of treating African children simply as consumers of educational products developed elsewhere, KAIRO seeks to create a platform where African experiences can become part of the learning process.

In this sense, the project represents the venture’s broader ambition to combine technology, education and storytelling while creating products that young Africans can recognise as relevant to their own lives.

From Youth Leadership to Smarter Water Logistics

Beyond education, Mbakeh Solutions is exploring technology’s potential in civic participation and essential-service logistics through The Gambia Reset Project and Ocean Gambia.

The former is a civic leadership initiative designed to promote responsible citizenship, youth empowerment, environmental action and community development. It seeks to position young people as active participants in addressing challenges within their communities rather than passive observers.

Ocean Gambia, meanwhile, takes a more commercially oriented approach by proposing a digital logistics platform that could coordinate the movement of processed drinking water between factories, distributors and consumers.

By using technology to improve coordination and distribution, the concept aims to make an important supply chain more efficient.

Together, the two projects demonstrate the breadth of Mbakeh Solutions’ approach, extending from social and civic development to practical commercial and logistical challenges.

An Early-Stage Venture Building Partnerships

Despite the ambition behind its projects, Mbakeh Solutions remains at an early stage and is not yet presenting its portfolio as a collection of fully established businesses.

The venture is self-funded and currently focused on validating its ideas, developing its projects and establishing partnerships that can support their growth.

This makes market validation and stakeholder engagement particularly important as the company determines which concepts have the strongest demand and potential for scale.

According to Mbakeh, the venture has already attracted interest from different groups that could play important roles in its development.

“However, we’ve received encouraging interest from students, educators, youth leaders, and international professionals who believe in our vision of combining technology, education, and civic leadership,” he said.

For Mbakeh Solutions, such interest could provide an important foundation as it moves from early concepts toward more developed and potentially scalable African innovations.

Talking Points

Mbakeh Solutions represents a potentially important model of African-led innovation because its operations extend beyond developing technology products to challenging the perception of Africa as primarily a consumer of foreign technology.

By developing initiatives such as KAIRO, The Gambia Reset Project and Ocean Gambia around locally identified challenges, the venture demonstrates how African founders can use technology, storytelling and systems thinking to produce solutions grounded in indigenous experiences.

Its emphasis on Gambian culture, youth leadership, education and community development could contribute positively to Africa’s global image by presenting the continent as a source of creativity, intellectual capacity and homegrown technological solutions rather than merely a market for imported innovations.

However, its impact remains largely prospective because the projects are still at different stages of development and the venture is yet to demonstrate substantial market traction, measurable social impact or scalability.

Its long-term credibility will therefore depend on execution, sustainability, partnerships and demonstrable outcomes.
