A young Nigerian lady, simply identified as Damilola, has evoked emotions when she donned an attire belonging to her late father in her graduation photo shoot.
Damilola, who is a graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, on Friday, had taken to social media to share a photoshoot of herself in the old patterned dress to celebrate her graduation from the university.
According to her, the development stemmed from her thought to honour her father’s legacy on a special day as her convocation ceremony.
“Honouring my dad’s legacy on my graduation day. Wearing his clothes as a symbol of his love and guidance, I give all the glory to God for this milestone. Forever grateful,” she posted.
In the shared post, an old picture of her father wearing the same attire was clipped alongside hers in different pose to celebrate her great day.
The uploaded image suggests that the dress had been appropriately adjusted to fit Damilola, making a striking, elegant style for a lady fashionista.
Techparley gathered that Damilola and her siblings had lost their father in 2023, and have had to keep a fond memory of him in their deeds.
Nigeria is a culturally-rich country with deep respect for family ties, that endures even after death. Also, father-daughter strong bond is a commonplace practice through generations.
A closer inspection of the dress by this correspondent reveals that major alterations made to the old design include removal of its large frontal pockets, and the replacement of its sleeves with a plain material.
Damilola’s rare choice of graduation photoshoot dress continues to stir emotions online with compliments pouring in from friends and well-wishers.
