Nigerian startup anyworkx is standing as a major player in Africa’s growing digital economy after evolving from a simple online marketplace into a multi-vertical super app designed to streamline how consumers access services, commerce, healthcare products, and everyday essentials from a single platform.
Founded in 2022 by X-agon Digital Solutions, anyworkx initially launched as a digital marketplace connecting users with verified service providers across more than 300 categories spanning both blue-collar and white-collar professions.
However, in response to changing consumer expectations and increasing demand for convenience, the company has expanded its offerings beyond professional services to create an integrated digital ecosystem that combines service discovery, e-commerce, food delivery, grocery shopping, pharmacy access, and local market purchases within one application.
According to co-founder Ademola Adeyinka, the transformation reflects a broader vision to simplify daily life for consumers while simultaneously helping businesses and service providers improve their digital visibility and customer reach.
“Recognising changing consumer behaviour and the growing demand for convenience, anyworkx has evolved beyond services into a broader ecosystem that now includes online ordering of food, groceries, medications and products from local markets,” Adeyinka said.
“Our long-term ambition is to build one of Africa’s defining digital infrastructure platforms for services and everyday commerce by integrating multiple aspects of daily life into one seamless experience,” he added.
From Service Marketplace to Integrated Digital Ecosystem
At its inception, anyworkx focused primarily on helping users discover, engage, and transact with verified professionals across a wide range of service categories. The platform enabled customers to find trusted artisans, technicians, consultants, and other service providers while offering businesses a digital channel through which to reach potential clients.
Over time, however, the startup observed significant shifts in consumer behavior. Increasing smartphone adoption, growing familiarity with digital platforms, and rising demand for convenience prompted the company to rethink its value proposition.
Today, the platform enables users to discover and book professionals, order meals and refreshments, purchase groceries and household essentials, access pharmacy services, shop from selected local markets, and choose between delivery and pick-up options.
By consolidating these activities within a single ecosystem, anyworkx aims to eliminate the need for consumers to navigate multiple applications for different daily needs.
The evolution mirrors a broader trend within emerging markets where technology companies are increasingly pursuing the super app model to improve customer retention and create more comprehensive digital experiences.
Addressing Africa’s Fragmented Consumer Experience
A key driver behind anyworkx’s expansion strategy is its belief that many African markets remain highly fragmented when it comes to accessing everyday services and products.
According to Adeyinka, consumers often find themselves juggling multiple platforms to accomplish routine tasks, creating inefficiencies and friction in the customer experience.
“Consumers often use one platform to find a service provider, another to order food, another to buy groceries, and yet another to access medications,” he said.
The startup believes this fragmentation extends beyond consumers to merchants and service providers as well. Many small businesses continue to face challenges in attracting customers online, limiting their ability to benefit from the continent’s rapidly growing digital economy.
“At the same time, many merchants and service providers still struggle with digital visibility and customer acquisition. We saw an opportunity to create a trusted ecosystem where these activities could happen in one place,” Adeyinka explained.
By bringing consumers, retailers, service providers, and logistics partners together on a unified platform, anyworkx hopes to create network effects that benefit all participants.
Rapid Adoption Despite Limited Marketing Spend
Despite being self-funded and operating with relatively limited external marketing resources, anyworkx says it has experienced strong early adoption. The company reports onboarding more than 30,000 users while expanding its network to include over 500 service categories and retail outlets.
Additionally, the platform is now available in 42 countries, demonstrating the startup’s ambition to establish a presence beyond Nigeria and capture opportunities across multiple African and international markets.
The pace of growth is particularly notable given the competitive nature of digital commerce and on-demand service sectors, where customer acquisition often requires significant marketing expenditure.
According to the company, the growing user base validates demand for a platform that combines multiple services and commerce functions into a single digital experience.
Founders Back Growth with $500k Investment
The startup’s growth has been supported largely through founder-led financing and long-term commitment from its leadership team.
Adeyinka revealed that the founders have invested more than US$500,000 of their own capital into building the platform and sustaining operations since launch.
“To date, founders have invested over US$500,000 in cash into building the platform and supporting operations, while also contributing years of full-time execution without salary,” he said.
The substantial founder investment highlights both confidence in the platform’s long-term potential and the challenges many African startups face in securing early-stage funding.
As the company enters its next phase of expansion, management believes additional investment could significantly accelerate customer acquisition, market penetration, and product development.
“Management believes there remains significant upside as additional investment supports broader market penetration and customer acquisition,” Adeyinka noted.
Preparing for Series A and Pan-African Expansion
Looking ahead, anyworkx is preparing to raise a Series A funding round as part of its broader Africa expansion strategy.
The company intends to leverage fresh capital to strengthen its market presence, attract new users, onboard more merchants and service providers, and further develop its technology infrastructure.
Its business model is built around diversified revenue streams that include facilitation fees on completed transactions, subscription services for businesses and platform participants, and advertising opportunities for merchants seeking greater visibility.
As competition intensifies across Africa’s digital commerce landscape, anyworkx is betting that convenience, ecosystem integration, and a growing network of users and providers will position it strongly in the race to become one of the continent’s leading super apps.
If successful, the company’s journey from a simple online marketplace to a comprehensive digital ecosystem could offer a glimpse into the future of how millions of Africans access services, shop for essentials, and manage everyday life through a single platform.
