Aiming at bridging Africa’s digital divide for skilled professionals and small businesses, Nigerian startup Laskenta Technologies is developing a global platform designed to connect craftsmen directly to clients worldwide.
Founded in 2024, the company is placing itself as a provider of practical and affordable digital solutions, with its flagship product, Workaaholic, now about 80 percent complete and nearing public launch.
According to founder and CEO Nnaemeka Ugwumba, the platform is built to help skilled workers “showcase their work, find clients internationally, and grow sustainable income through digital access.”
This intends to address long-standing barriers that have kept many African craftsmen confined to local markets and word-of-mouth referrals.
What Laskenta Technologies Is and What It Does
Laskenta Technologies was established to tackle the growing demand for accessible technology solutions among African startups, small businesses, and skilled professionals.
Launched in 2024, the company offers a range of services including web and software development, digital tools, and business automation systems designed to help enterprises operate more efficiently online.
The startup began as a small group of developers and digital professionals who recognized a recurring challenge, talented individuals and businesses were often excluded from meaningful participation in the global digital economy.
“The startup was formed to address the growing need for practical and affordable technology solutions for African businesses and skilled professionals,” Ugwumba explained.
From those early beginnings, Laskenta, according to the company, has expanded into a multidisciplinary team made up of software developers, designers, product managers, and digital strategists.
“Today, the team consists of software developers, designers, product managers, and digital strategists working together to build scalable solutions that empower businesses and individuals,” he said.
The company’s broader mission is to create technology that is not only functional but also scalable and inclusive.
What You Should Know About Laskenta’s Workaaholic
At the heart of Laskenta’s vision is Workaaholic, a global client-and-craftsmen marketplace currently in development. The platform is specifically tailored to skilled trades, offering artisans the opportunity to showcase their portfolios and connect with clients beyond their immediate geographic environment.
“The platform is currently about 80 percent complete and will soon be ready for full public deployment,” Ugwumba disclosed, showing that a public launch is imminent.
Unlike many existing freelance marketplaces that primarily cater to digital services such as writing, graphic design, or programming, Workaaholic is designed with a sharper focus on skilled trades and emerging markets.
“While there are freelance and marketplace platforms internationally, there is still a major opportunity to build a platform tailored to skilled trades and emerging markets,” Ugwumba said.
By focusing on craftsmen, such as carpenters, electricians, mechanics, and other hands-on professionals, the platform aims to unlock new income streams for individuals who have historically relied on local demand.
The core value proposition is simple but transformative, and that’s, digital access as a pathway to sustainable income.
Workaaholic is being developed as a global solution from inception, ensuring that craftsmen can connect directly with international clients without intermediaries limiting their reach.
Bridging Two Critical Gaps in the Market
Laskenta’s strategy is rooted in identifying and addressing two significant gaps in the market.
First, many small businesses struggle to access affordable digital tools that can help them scale operations. Second, skilled craftsmen often depend heavily on word-of-mouth and local networks, restricting their earning potential.
“We noticed two major gaps. First, many small businesses struggle to access affordable digital tools that can help them scale. Second, skilled craftsmen often rely on local markets and word of mouth, limiting their income and opportunities,” Ugwumba noted.
Workaaholic seeks to close this gap by offering a structured digital marketplace where skills can be monetized beyond local boundaries.
By enabling direct global connections, the platform aims to reduce dependency on informal referral systems and expand professional visibility.
A Bootstrapped Growth Strategy
Unlike many tech startups that prioritize rapid fundraising, Laskenta has been largely self-funded. The company has relied on bootstrapping, financing its operations through the founder’s resources and revenue generated from services.
“Laskenta has been primarily self-funded and bootstrapped by its founder,” Ugwumba said.
He added that this approach has enabled the company to focus on long-term value creation rather than short-term investor pressures.
“This approach has allowed us to grow sustainably and focus on building real value before seeking external investment.”
The near-completion of Workaaholic marks a significant milestone in that journey.
“A major milestone for us is the near completion of Workaaholic, which represents a significant step toward expanding our product ecosystem,” he said.
Early Market Response and Global Vision
Laskenta reports encouraging feedback from businesses and individuals who have engaged with its digital solutions so far. The response to Workaaholic in particular has been positive even before its full release.
“Early interest in Workaaholic has also been strong, with craftsmen and potential users expressing enthusiasm about a platform focused on connecting skills to global opportunities”, the founder revealed.
Looking ahead, the company’s ambitions stretch far beyond Nigeria.
“Our long term vision is global, especially with the launch of Workaaholic, which is being designed for worldwide use from day one,” he emphasized.
As Africa’s digital economy continues to expand, Laskenta Technologies is betting that empowering skilled trades with global digital access could unlock new pathways for inclusive growth, transforming local talent into internationally competitive professionals through a single, purpose-built platform.
Talking Points
Laskenta Technologies’ vision with Workaaholic is both timely and strategically sound, particularly in a continent where skilled trades remain largely informal and digitally underserved; however, execution will ultimately determine whether the platform becomes transformative or merely aspirational.
The identification of two clear gaps, limited access to affordable digital tools for SMEs and restricted market reach for craftsmen, is accurate and grounded in observable realities across African economies.
Yet, the competitive landscape cannot be understated, global freelance platforms already possess scale, trust systems, payment infrastructure, and brand recognition.
Understanding this means Workaaholic must differentiate not just by focusing on trades, but by offering strong operational features such as verification systems, seamless cross-border payments, dispute resolution mechanisms, and localized onboarding tailored to emerging markets.
Its bootstrapped growth model speaks discipline and long-term focus, but scaling a global marketplace typically requires significant capital for technology, marketing, compliance, and liquidity balancing between supply and demand.
Encouraging early interest is positive, but marketplace businesses live or die by network effects, ensuring enough paying clients to match onboarded craftsmen will be critical.
Ultimately, the concept is compelling and socially impactful, but its sustainability will hinge on operational depth, trust-building infrastructure, and its ability to truly globalize local skills in a competitive digital economy.
