NSEMA advances search, rescue operations in fresh Niger-tanker explosion

The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba-Arab, has assured residents in the Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State that his agency is working tirelessly to rescue victims from a wreckage after a petrol tanker exploded on Sunday.

Over 30 people have been confirmed dead in the tragic incident.

The Director General disclosed, in a statement issued on Sunday, that the incident occurred around 12:30 am on Sunday when a petrol tanker collided head-on with a trailer truck transporting travellers and cattle from Wudil, Kano State.

He noted that the explosion also resulted in the death of more than 50 cattle, adding that two other vehicles, a crane truck and a pickup van, were engulfed in the fire.

“NSEMA received a report of a deadly tanker explosion that occurred on Sunday, the 8th of September, 2024, along the Lapai-Agaie road, about 2 km from Dendo Community in Agaie LGA,” he said.
