NIGERIA – Mudashir AbdulMalik, a 37-year-old social welfare volunteer and graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, needs 40 Million Naira for a kidney transplant.

According to a medical report provided by the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), jointly signed by Dr. D. S. Oyedepo, the Consultant-in-charge, and Prof. A. D. Yussuf, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital; AbdulMalik is diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, and urgently requires a kidney transplant to give life another chance.

Described as a selfless social welfare worker, having spearheaded numerous fundraising initiatives to support others in need in the past, his families and friends are rallying round to source for funds to facilitate the surgery.

“AbdulMalik has a heart of gold,” Abdulrahman Abdulsalam, a friend and colleague, noted. “He never hesitated to rally support for anyone in need, organizing fundraisers and offering his time generously.

“It’s heartbreaking to see him go through this again, especially knowing how much he cares for people around him. When my sister had an accident, and needed funds during her long admission in the hospital, AbdulMalik championed the designing of the fundraising flier, and committed to helping us update it regularly as funds came in for almost two years. He is so selfless.”

Since the mid of May 2025, an effort at crowdfunding the 40 million medical bill by his relations has helped raised 11 million naira, leaving a shortfall of approximately 29 million naira.

Surgery

In 2021, AbdulMalik was first diagnosed of kidney disease, and had a successful transplant after receiving donations from the public.

While awaiting the transplant, he must undergo weekly dialysis sessions costing ₦120,000 each, with an additional weekly laboratory investigations and medications estimated at ₦50,000 which brings the interim weekly cost to ₦170,000, the medical report further reveals.

His friends and associates, through the #SaveMako Campaign, seek financial support from well meaning individuals towards the facilitation of his surgery.
