UAE-based artificial intelligence startup, Synapse Analytics has raised $13 million in a Series A funding round as it seeks to scale its AI-powered decision-making technology for regulated financial institutions across global markets.

The investment, led by Partech with participation from Algebra Ventures and Silicon Badia, brings the company’s total funding since inception to $17 million.

Founded in 2018 by Ahmed Abaza and Galal Elbeshbishy, Synapse Analytics is developing what it describes as an agentic AI decisioning platform designed to help banks, fintechs and other financial institutions automate critical decisions while retaining control of their data and policies.

“Our mission is to give financial institutions the intelligence and decision infrastructure they need to make faster, more secure decisions to reduce risk, unlock growth and build stronger customer relationships,” Abaza said.

What is Synapse Analytics?

Synapse Analytics is an Abu Dhabi-headquartered AI company that provides technology designed to help financial institutions make faster and more informed decisions.

Founded by Ahmed Abaza and Galal Elbeshbishy in 2018, the company focuses on what is known as decisioning infrastructure, essentially software that helps banks and other regulated organisations determine what action should be taken based on customer and financial data.

Its platform can support decisions relating to customer onboarding, lending, credit risk, fraud detection and anti-money laundering.

Rather than simply generating information, Synapse’s technology is designed to help financial institutions apply policies, assess risks and automate decisions.

The company works with banks, non-banking financial institutions, fintechs and telecommunications companies across the Middle East, Africa and Latin America, positioning itself at the intersection of artificial intelligence, financial technology, risk management and data governance.

Synapse Analytics’ Series A Funding

The company’s latest financing represents a significant step in its expansion journey. Synapse Analytics secured $13 million in Series A funding, taking its cumulative funding to $17 million since its establishment.

The round was led by Partech, a global technology investment firm, while Algebra Ventures and Silicon Badia also participated. The company did not disclose the valuation attached to the transaction or other financial terms of the deal.

The fresh capital will support three major priorities, expanding the company’s workforce, accelerating product development and increasing its presence in international markets.

For Synapse, the investment comes at a time when financial institutions are under growing pressure to use artificial intelligence to improve speed and efficiency while still complying with strict requirements around privacy, security and regulatory oversight.

Partech Principal Lewam Kefela said the firm was excited to support Synapse as it builds “the category-leading decisioning infrastructure for banks and financial institutions across the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.”

How Synapse Uses AI to Improve Financial Decisions

At the centre of Synapse Analytics’ proposition is its agentic AI decisioning platform, which is designed to allow credit and risk teams to build, test, modify and deploy financial policies.

In practical terms, the technology can help institutions determine whether a customer should be approved for a loan, how much credit should be offered, whether a transaction presents potential fraud risks, or whether an existing lending policy needs to be adjusted.

A significant feature is the ability for risk and credit teams to change policies and test their potential impact against historical data before deploying them.

This allows institutions to examine how a new policy might have performed using previous customer behaviour and financial records.

According to COO, Galal Elbeshbishy, the company is moving beyond traditional underwriting by enabling “intelligent agents that actively work alongside their teams” to build and refine credit policies, enhance underwriting criteria and monitor portfolios in real time.

Keeping Sensitive Financial Data Under Institutional Control

Data privacy and security form a major part of Synapse Analytics’ business proposition.

As banks and financial companies increasingly adopt AI, they face a fundamental challenge, that’s, sophisticated AI systems often require access to large quantities of sensitive information, creating concerns about where that information is processed, stored and controlled.

Synapse says its technology addresses this challenge by allowing its decisioning solution to operate within an institution’s own technological environment.

The platform can reportedly be deployed on-premise, in private or public cloud environments, in sovereign cloud infrastructure or in air-gapped environments.

This means financial institutions can use Synapse’s AI capabilities while retaining greater control over their data, policies and decision-making infrastructure.

The company’s proprietary models can run entirely within a client’s infrastructure, allowing institutions to pursue AI-driven automation without necessarily moving sensitive customer information outside their controlled environment.

AI Agents Could Reshape Credit and Risk Management

Synapse Analytics’ longer-term ambition extends beyond helping institutions automate individual financial decisions.

The company wants AI agents to become active collaborators for credit and risk professionals, continuously analysing portfolios, identifying emerging risks and highlighting potential opportunities.

This could allow financial institutions to respond more quickly when borrower behaviour or market conditions change.

For example, an AI system could identify emerging patterns among borrowers that indicate rising default risks or highlight groups of customers whose financial behaviour suggests an opportunity for responsible expansion of credit.

Elbeshbishy said the company’s objective is to enable institutions to “grow their portfolios while reducing risk” and react quickly to changing market conditions and borrower behaviour.

He further described the company’s vision as creating “the AI operating system for the new age of finance,” reflecting its ambition to provide foundational technology for increasingly automated financial institutions.

What the New Funding Means for Synapse Analytics

The $13 million Series A investment gives Synapse Analytics additional resources to pursue its international growth strategy at a time when demand for secure and scalable AI applications in financial services is increasing.

The company plans to use the funding to recruit more employees, improve its products and expand into additional international markets.

Its existing footprint across the Middle East, Africa and Latin America provides a foundation for that expansion, while its focus on regulated financial institutions gives it access to markets where data governance, risk management and compliance are particularly important.

For investors such as Partech, the opportunity lies in Synapse’s attempt to solve a growing problem for financial institutions, how to adopt increasingly capable AI without losing control over sensitive information and critical decisions.

With the new funding, Synapse is positioning itself not merely as an AI software provider, but as a potential infrastructure layer for the next generation of data-driven banking and financial services.
