James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has engaged a delegation of United States investors at Sogakope to explore collaboration in innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology aimed at supporting the Volta Region’s development agenda.

The delegation, led by Delali Kotoka and Dr Isaac Addae of the Conscious Immersion Group, expressed strong interest in partnering with the Region to harness economic opportunities and promote private sector-driven growth.

“Entrepreneurship remained a key pillar for sustainable development, as it empowered young people to become innovative and competitive while contributing to job creation and economic stability,” Gunu said.

He stressed that harnessing youth creativity through enterprise development would underpin long-term regional transformation.

What You Should Know

Gunu described the proposed partnership as strategic, emphasising that the Volta Region held significant potential that required targeted investment to unlock its value.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to advance the Volta Lake Economic Corridor project, noting that effective private sector participation would be crucial for the success of such initiatives.

During the meeting, the delegation provided updates on their previous visit to Ghana and outlined progress made in mobilising partners and identifying priority areas for investment.

They reaffirmed their readiness to support initiatives aimed at positioning the Volta Region as a hub for innovation and enterprise, while seeking the Minister’s endorsement for continued engagement.

The US team included:

  • Frederick Cawthon, Chief Executive Officer of Biocatalysis Solution
  • Dr Kim Scott, Director of International Programmes at Elizabeth City State University
  • Tracy Adams, Engineer and Entrepreneur at the same university
  • Robert Turner, Manager of Innovation Programmes at the TSU Division of Sponsored Research

Commitment to Meaningful Partnerships

Gunu assured the delegation of the Region’s commitment to building meaningful relationships with development partners.

He emphasised that such partnerships would help stimulate economic activity, create employment, and expand opportunities for private sector participation across the Volta Region.

The engagement signals a growing focus on public-private collaboration as a vehicle for regional transformation, leveraging both local resources and international expertise to accelerate innovation, enterprise development, and sustainable growth.

What This Means for Ghanaians

The engagement between the Volta Regional Minister and the US investor delegation signals new opportunities for Ghanaians, particularly in entrepreneurship and innovation.

By attracting strategic investment and expertise, industry leaders say the Region can create more avenues for young people to develop businesses, gain skills, and contribute meaningfully to the local economy.

For small and medium enterprises, the collaboration could translate into better access to funding, mentorship, and technology partnerships. These resources can help local businesses scale operations, improve efficiency, and compete both nationally and internationally, fostering a more robust private sector ecosystem.

By linking government initiatives like the Volta Lake Economic Corridor with international expertise, Ghanaians stand to benefit from improved infrastructure, new economic activities, and long-term employment opportunities.

Finally, harnessing youth creativity and enterprise through these initiatives may support a shift towards a knowledge- and innovation-driven economy. For Ghanaians, analysts say this could mean more inclusive growth, greater economic participation, and a stronger foundation for the country’s overall competitiveness in the global market.

Talking Points

It is impressive that the Volta Regional Minister has engaged a delegation of US investors to explore partnerships in innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology, addressing a critical need for strategic investment in regional development.

This collaboration positions the Volta Region as a hub for private sector-driven growth, leveraging international expertise to complement government-led initiatives such as the Volta Lake Economic Corridor project. It also highlights a deliberate focus on fostering youth entrepreneurship and enterprise development as key drivers of sustainable economic transformation.

At Techparley, we see such engagements as essential for accelerating public-private collaboration across Ghana. By bringing investors, technical expertise, and mentorship to local entrepreneurs, these partnerships can create tangible opportunities for job creation, business scaling, and knowledge transfer in underserved regions.

The success of this initiative will depend on sustained commitment from both local authorities and international partners, alongside active participation from young innovators and small businesses. With careful alignment of resources and priorities, the Volta Region could emerge as a model for regional innovation and inclusive economic growth in Ghana.
