South African payments platform, Yoco, has partnered with accounting software startup, Stub, in a move aimed at eliminating one of the biggest administrative burdens facing small businesses, manual financial reconciliation.

The integration allows sales and payment information to flow automatically between both platforms, giving entrepreneurs an up-to-the-second view of their revenue, expenses, and cash flow without the need for spreadsheets, manual data entry, or switching between multiple systems.

The partnership combines Yoco’s payment infrastructure with stub’s accounting and bookkeeping capabilities to create a unified financial management experience for independent businesses.

By automating the process of matching payments with invoices, categorising transactions, and updating financial records in real time, the two companies say they are helping business owners spend less time on paperwork and more time on growth, customer service, and operational decision-making.

The collaboration comes at a time when digital tools are becoming increasingly important for small businesses navigating complex economic conditions.

It also reflects a broader trend in financial technology where payments, accounting, and business management functions are being integrated into single ecosystems that provide entrepreneurs with a clearer understanding of their financial health.

What to Know About the Companies: Yoco and Stub

Founded to support South Africa’s growing community of entrepreneurs and independent businesses, Yoco has established itself as one of the country’s leading financial technology companies.

The company provides payment solutions that enable businesses to accept card payments both in-store and online, while also offering access to business funding, insights, and operational tools.

Today, Yoco serves more than 200,000 small businesses across South Africa and processes over US$1 billion in card payments annually. The company has continued to expand its footprint through product innovation and strategic growth initiatives.

In recent months, it has attracted attention following the appointment of a new chief executive officer, the launch of Tap to Pay on iPhone in South Africa, and a significant acquisition. The company also raised US$83 million in Series C funding in 2021, reinforcing investor confidence in its long-term vision.

Its new partner, stub, focuses on simplifying accounting and financial administration for small businesses. The startup offers tools for invoicing, quotation management, payment tracking, cash flow monitoring, tax-related tasks, and bookkeeping.

Since its launch, stub has helped thousands of businesses streamline administrative processes that often consume valuable time and resources.

Together, the companies are positioning themselves as providers of an end-to-end financial operating system for entrepreneurs seeking both payment processing and financial management capabilities in one integrated environment.

The Problem They Are Solving Together

For many small businesses, managing finances remains one of the most time-consuming aspects of running a company. While payment platforms help businesses collect money from customers, business owners often still need to manually transfer transaction information into accounting systems, reconcile sales with invoices, and update financial records.

These repetitive administrative tasks not only consume valuable time but can also increase the likelihood of human error. Entrepreneurs frequently find themselves juggling multiple software platforms, exporting data files, and manually matching payments against invoices to ensure their books are accurate.

The Yoco-stub partnership aims to remove this friction entirely. By integrating payment processing and accounting workflows, the two companies seek to bridge the gap between earning revenue and accurately recording it.

According to stub co-founder and chief executive officer Tayla Dandridge, the integration is designed to simplify financial administration for business owners.

“The integration between stub and Yoco closes the gap between running your business and doing the books, allowing businesses to claim back the time they are losing due to fragmented systems and manual data capture,” said the CEO.

Dandridge added that the collaboration represents part of a broader effort to build a connected ecosystem of business tools tailored to the needs of South African entrepreneurs.

“Along with partners like Yoco, we are building an ecosystem of tools that just work for South African entrepreneurs and provide them with features and functionality for which they have been waiting for a long time.”

What Does the Integration Do?

At the heart of the partnership is the automation of financial reconciliation processes.

Once a business connects its Yoco and stub accounts, transaction information is transferred automatically and securely between the two systems the moment a payment occurs. Instead of requiring business owners to manually capture sales information, the software performs several key tasks in the background.

The system automatically categorises transactions, matches payments to corresponding invoice numbers, and tags each sale with location-specific information. This means business owners no longer need to export spreadsheets or reconcile transactions across separate systems.

The integration also provides operational insights by allowing businesses to track performance across different locations and payment devices. Owners can quickly identify which branch, store, or payment terminal is generating the strongest results, enabling more informed management decisions.

Importantly, businesses can initiate the connection from either platform. Users can link stub directly within the Yoco application or connect Yoco from inside stub, making adoption straightforward regardless of which platform they use most frequently.

Real-Time Financial Insight: What It Means

One of the most significant benefits of the partnership is the delivery of real-time financial visibility. Traditionally, many small business owners only gain a clear picture of their financial performance after manually reviewing records at the end of a day, week, or month.

This delay can make it difficult to respond quickly to changing business conditions. With the integration, revenue, expenses, and cash flow data are updated instantly whenever a transaction takes place. Business owners can therefore monitor their financial position as events occur rather than relying on historical reports.

This immediate visibility allows entrepreneurs to understand how their businesses are performing at any given moment. They can identify revenue trends, monitor spending patterns, track cash flow movements, and assess overall business health without waiting for manual reconciliation processes to be completed.

The result is a more accurate and timely understanding of business performance, enabling owners to make faster and more informed decisions.

Why This Matters

The significance of the partnership extends beyond simple software integration. Small and independent businesses often operate with limited administrative resources, making efficiency a critical factor in long-term success.

Every hour spent reconciling transactions, updating spreadsheets, or managing accounting records is an hour not spent serving customers, developing products, or pursuing growth opportunities.

By automating routine financial tasks, the Yoco-stub integration allows entrepreneurs to redirect their focus toward higher-value activities while maintaining greater confidence in the accuracy of their financial records.

The collaboration also demonstrates how local technology companies can work together to solve challenges specific to their market. Dandridge described the partnership as an example of how “local tools should work together via deep integrations that power superior customer experiences.”

Yoco’s Vice President of Engineering, Eugene Coetzee, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the broader strategic importance of the integration.

“By adding another accounting integration in stub, Yoco is expanding its support beyond payments even further. This is another example that adds to us being the smart commerce platform of choice for independent businesses,” he said.

Ultimately, the partnership represents more than a technical connection between two software platforms. It reflects a growing shift toward integrated business ecosystems that combine payments, accounting, operational insights, and financial management into a single seamless experience.

For South Africa’s independent businesses, that could mean less time spent on administration, greater financial clarity, and stronger foundations for sustainable growth.
