Maritime technology provider, ZeroNorth, has secured a renewed and expanded five-year partnership with Maersk Tankers, reinforcing the shipping company’s commitment to digital optimisation and data-driven vessel management.

The agreement, announced by ZeroNorth on LinkedIn, extends the company’s services across 240 vessels, including all tankers and gas carriers under Maersk Tankers’ management.

Under the expanded partnership, Maersk Tankers will continue to use ZeroNorth’s suite of optimisation and performance platforms. These include voyage optimisation tools, onboard decision support through ZeroNorth Onboard, which provides real-time routing and speed recommendations, and fleet performance and data quality management through SmartShip.

“I am really proud to extend our partnership with Maersk Tankers. This renewal is a testament to the trust we have built and our shared commitment to driving digital excellence and sustainability across the global fleet,” Søren Christian Meyer, Founder & CEO of ZeroNorth, stated.

What You Should Know

Together, these systems allow operators to analyse routes, weather conditions, fuel consumption and vessel performance in real time, supporting better decisions during voyage execution and enabling companies to improve efficiency while reducing environmental impact.

Founded in 2020, ZeroNorth has positioned itself as a technology provider focused on accelerating the energy transition in global shipping. The company has grown from a team of six to around 600 employees across 10 global locations.

Its platform aggregates and analyses billions of data points, enabling seamless information flow from ship to shore and across the wider maritime value chain. By combining software, domain expertise and large-scale data infrastructure, ZeroNorth aims to provide operators with a single, reliable source of operational and environmental insight.

The company says this approach enables shipping businesses to improve profitability while also reducing emissions, aligning commercial performance with climate and regulatory goals.

A Long-Standing Relationship

ZeroNorth was originally founded with Maersk Tankers as one of its early backers, making the renewal of the partnership symbolically significant.

“With the expanded scope of our partnership with Zeronorth we aim to simplify our internal processes while increasing our reporting quality and making our decision making on voyage execution and performance measures much better,” said Michael Schytt Christensen, Global Head of Operations, Maersk Tankers.

Maersk Tankers and its affiliated companies operate one of the largest tanker fleets in the world through a combination of direct ownership and commercial management services for shipowners.

The company’s strategy is focused on owning and operating tankers and gas carriers through the energy transition, building on a maritime legacy dating back to 1928. Maersk Tankers employs around 300 people across offices in Denmark, Singapore, India, the UK and the United States, and is headquartered in Copenhagen.

The company is part of the A.P. Moller Group, owned by A.P. Moller Holding.

Digital Transformation in Global Shipping

The renewed partnership comes as shipping companies face increasing pressure to improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions and comply with tightening international regulations.

Digital voyage optimisation and performance management tools are increasingly viewed as core infrastructure rather than optional add-ons, enabling operators to reduce fuel use, improve arrival predictability and strengthen environmental reporting.

By extending and expanding its relationship with ZeroNorth, experts say Maersk Tankers is signalling that data-driven decision-making and digital optimisation will play a central role in how the company manages its fleet through the next phase of industry transformation.

Talking Points

It is notable that Maersk Tankers has chosen to deepen its partnership with ZeroNorth at a time when shipping companies are under growing pressure to improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and comply with tightening environmental regulations.

This decision positions digital voyage optimisation and real-time performance management not as optional tools, but as core infrastructure for modern fleet operations, especially for large and complex tanker fleets.

At Techparley, we see how platforms like ZeroNorth are becoming critical to helping traditional industries navigate the energy transition by turning data into practical operational decisions.

The scale of the partnership highlights how digital tools are now being deployed across entire fleets rather than in isolated pilot projects, signalling a shift from experimentation to operational reliance.

However, there is still room to expand impact. The long-term value will depend on how effectively these tools translate data insights into measurable fuel savings, emissions reductions, and improved operational discipline.

As shipping moves deeper into its digital and environmental transformation, partnerships like this could become a model for how technology and industry work together to align commercial performance with sustainability goals.
