Basata Holding for Financial Investments, a leading Egyptian fintech specialising in digital payments, has announced a major expansion of its point-of-sale (POS) network.

The company’s new service now allows users to deposit and withdraw funds from all mobile wallets, moving beyond its previous limitation to Vodafone Cash.

This development reflects Basata’s strategy to reach a broader user base and consolidate its position as a key player in Egypt’s growing digital payments sector.

By enabling transactions across its extensive POS network, the company aims to make everyday financial activities faster, more convenient, and more accessible nationwide.

What you need to know

Basata’s platform upgrade means customers are no longer tied to specific locations to conduct financial transactions. Users can now perform deposits and withdrawals seamlessly through more than 120,000 merchant points of sale.

The expansion leverages Egypt’s massive mobile wallet ecosystem, which currently includes over 40 million active users, reinforcing Basata’s role as a bridge between the digital economy and everyday cash transactions.

“Technology should serve as a tool to simplify people’s lives. In this spirit, we are pleased at Basata to expand our cash-in and cash-out services to cover all mobile wallets through our nationwide POS network,” said Karim Shehata, CEO of Basata.

“This step aims to enable faster and more flexible financial transactions, enhancing the overall user experience and making everyday payments smoother and more accessible anywhere across Egypt.”

Transforming POS locations into mini financial hubs

Basata currently offers a comprehensive payment ecosystem with more than 3,200 services, including utility bill payments, educational fees, insurance services, and Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) solutions.

With the new POS network capabilities, each location effectively becomes a mini financial hub, allowing all mobile wallet users to conduct transactions efficiently. This reduces reliance on traditional bank branches while providing merchants with tools to serve customers more effectively.

The upgrade not only enhances convenience for individuals but also supports merchant operations, helping streamline daily financial activities across the country.

Growth through strategic partnerships

Basata’s expansion follows a period of rapid growth since 2022, driven in part by its strategic partnership with Vodafone Egypt, which acquired a 10% stake in the company. The collaboration has strengthened Basata’s operational capacity and paved the way for broader service offerings.

This latest development underscores Basata’s commitment to:

  • Financial inclusion by making digital payment services accessible to a wide demographic
  • Convenient, everyday solutions tailored to the needs of users and merchants
  • Driving innovation in Egypt’s fintech sector and across the wider region

According to Shehata, this development reflects Basata’s ongoing commitment to delivering innovative payment solutions that serve various segments of society.

“We strive to reach the largest possible base of users and recognize the importance of this step in strengthening Basata’s role as one of the key players in the digital payments sector, not only in Egypt but also across the wider region,” Shehata said.

As Basata continues to expand its services, the company positions itself as a central player in Egypt’s evolving digital economy, combining technological innovation with practical, user-focused payment solutions.

Talking Points

It is notable that Basata has expanded its cash-in and cash-out services to support all mobile wallets across its nationwide POS network, removing previous restrictions tied to Vodafone Cash.

This upgrade positions Basata’s POS locations as mini financial hubs, enabling users to deposit and withdraw funds conveniently while reducing reliance on traditional bank branches.

At Techparley, we see how this expansion can accelerate digital payments adoption across Egypt, bringing practical value to millions of users who rely on mobile wallets for daily transactions.

By integrating over 3,200 services, from bill payments and educational fees to insurance and BNPL, Basata is helping individuals and merchants manage financial activities efficiently in one place.

As Basata scales its network and service offerings, there is an opportunity to strengthen financial inclusion and make digital payments a standard part of everyday life, not just in Egypt but potentially across the wider region.
