Saudi Arabia is strategically positioning itself as a leading global investment destination after its Public Investment Fund (PIF) and global investment firm, Brookfield announced the first close of a new Middle East-focused private equity fund worth approximately USD 2 billion.
Backed by PIF alongside a consortium of regional and international institutional investors, the fund is designed to channel long-term capital into high-growth businesses across Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The initiative underscores the Kingdom’s determination to deepen its capital markets, attract international private capital, strengthen its investment ecosystem, and provide businesses with greater access to financing.
This opportunit for businesses will go beyond traditional funding sources as economic diversification efforts continue to accelerate under Vision 2030.
Saudi Arabia Doubles Down on Attracting Global Private Capital
The newly established investment vehicle represents one of the latest efforts by Saudi Arabia to increase the flow of international investment into its rapidly expanding private sector.
By partnering with Brookfield, one of the world’s largest investment managers, the Kingdom aims to mobilize global institutional capital while creating stronger financing channels for businesses operating in strategic sectors.
The first close of the fund reached approximately USD 2 billion, contributed by the Public Investment Fund together with a group of regional and international institutional investors.
The successful fundraising milestone signals growing investor confidence in the Middle East, particularly the Gulf region, as an attractive destination for long-term private equity investments.
According to the announcement, around half of the fund’s total capital is expected to be deployed in Saudi Arabia.
This is intended to generate additional financing opportunities for businesses operating in industries considered central to the Kingdom’s long-term economic transformation and diversification agenda.
Brookfield Eyes Strategic Sectors Across Saudi Arabia and the GCC
The fund will operate under Brookfield Middle East Partners (BMEP) and focus on a broad range of private equity opportunities across Saudi Arabia and other GCC markets.
Its investment strategy includes buyouts, minority growth investments, and other private equity transactions involving businesses with strong long-term growth potential.
Priority sectors include financial services, business services, consumer industries, industrial manufacturing, technology, and healthcare.
Brookfield also plans to leverage its investment professionals based in Riyadh together with its extensive global investment network to identify promising companies throughout the region.
The diversified sector focus reflects increasing investor interest in industries expected to benefit from digital transformation, expanding consumer demand, industrial development, and healthcare modernization across Gulf economies.
PIF and Brookfield Deepen Long-term Strategic Partnership
The Public Investment Fund joined the initiative as the fund’s anchor investor, reinforcing its commitment to building long-term partnerships with leading international investment institutions.
Brookfield will also commit USD 500 million of its own capital to the fund, continuing its long-standing practice of investing alongside its partners.
This approach aligns the firm’s financial interests with those of other investors while demonstrating confidence in the Middle East’s long-term growth prospects.
Explaining the broader objective behind the partnership, Yazeed A. Al-Humied, Deputy Governor and Head of MENA Investments at PIF, said:
“Our partnership with Brookfield is designed to help anchor international private equity into Saudi Arabia and the region. It will also accelerate deal flow while continuing to bring world-class expertise to the local capital market ecosystem.”
The statement highlights Saudi Arabia’s ambition not only to attract investment capital but also to strengthen the expertise, institutional capacity, and sophistication of its domestic investment ecosystem.
Professional Investment Development in Saudi Arabia
Beyond capital deployment, the partnership also introduces the Brookfield Academy to Saudi Arabia.
Established in 2019, the Academy provides professional development and interactive learning opportunities for investment professionals, helping build local capabilities in investment management and private capital.
Its introduction reflects a broader emphasis on knowledge transfer alongside financial investment, ensuring that local professionals gain greater exposure to international investment practices and global industry expertise.
The initiative complements Saudi Arabia’s wider efforts to develop highly skilled financial professionals capable of supporting the country’s expanding capital markets and increasingly sophisticated investment landscape.
Growing Funding Opportunities for Businesses
The launch of the fund is expected to strengthen the Middle East’s private capital ecosystem by creating new financing pathways for businesses beyond traditional bank lending.
For growth-stage companies, greater access to private equity financing could support expansion plans, product development, market entry, acquisitions, and job creation.
For international investors, the successful first close reflects continued confidence in the GCC’s long-term economic outlook despite evolving global market conditions.
Attention will now shift to how quickly Brookfield deploys the fund’s capital and identifies its first investments.
The pace of dealmaking across Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC will provide an early indication of investor confidence, private equity activity, and the region’s ability to sustain long-term growth through increased participation from global institutional capital.
