A Nigerian X (Twitter) user, identified as Ridwan Adelaja, has knocked Transsion-owned electronic gadget subsidy, Oraimo, over a subpar power bank experience.
The user, who, according to his X profile, is a media aide to the Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, took to his handle on Saturday, May 4, 2024, to share a disappointing experience with a 40,000 mAh device.
The user, who did not disclose when and where he purchased the gadget, sparked a debate about the reliability of the Oraimo power bank.
He wrote: “My new 40000 mAh #Oraimo power bank isn’t Oraimo-ing [sic] at all. Charge for long hours only to drain within 1 hour. What sort of Oraimo is this?”
The power bank, marketed as a reliable accessory for on-the-go charging, allegedly takes hours to charge but only provides a single hour of use.
Oraimo, which is owned by China-headquartered Transsion, same company that owns Tecno, Infinix and Itel, is yet to respond to the complaint, as at the time of filing this report.
Techparley gathered that Oraimo has been facing a major crisis behind the scenes.
According to anonymous sources within the company’s retail dealership chain in Abuja, Nigeria, Oraimo has recently discovered that a batch of its 40,000 mAh power banks were poorly configured and produced.
“The company has been scrambling to retrieve the defective devices from the market to avoid further customer dissatisfaction and potential reputational damage,” the source noted.
The sources further revealed that the faulty power banks were released due to a manufacturing error, which resulted in a significantly reduced battery life and overall performance.
He, however, noted that Oraimo has been working to recall the affected products and replace them with new ones that meet the company’s quality standards.
Techparley has reached out to Ridwan if he has returned the device to the company for replacement, as the source claimed, but he is yet to respond to our enquiry.
