The National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has unveiled its timetable for the 2025 zonal congresses.
The zonal congresses are organised for the election of new Zonal Working Committees (ZWC) and National Ex-officio members.
The timetable was approved during the party’s 592nd NWC meeting and with the aim to usher in new leadership in the South-South, South-East, South-West, North-Central, and North-East zones respectively.
According to a statement released today by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the congresses will mark the expiration of the current zonal executives’ tenures.
The sale of forms for ZWC positions and National Ex-officio roles will commence on November 18, 2024, and end on December 18, 2024.
Ologunagba emphasized the party’s commitment to a transparent process of governance all over Nigeria.
“The screening of aspirants will be conducted at Zonal Headquarters on January 25, 2025, while appeals for the screening process will take place on February 1, 2025,”
“The PDP is committed to ensuring fairness and transparency in the conduct of these congresses.”
Key dates include the congresses for the North-East, South-East, and South-South, which are set for February 22, 2025, and for the North-Central and South-West on March 22, 2025.
The appeal processes for the respective zones will follow shortly after.
Meanwhile, PDP chieftain Tom Ikimi, chairman of the party’s disciplinary committee, emphasised the party’s call for unity and fairness across all sections.
He made this appeal in an address delivered in Abuja on Sunday saying the party is hopeful that its members would continue to showcase oneness despite all hurdles.
“We are hopeful that our fairness, firmness, and decisiveness will restore the hope and confidence of our great party to meet the expectations of our teeming membership nationwide and the Nigerian public who are desperate for an appropriate national leadership,” Ikimi stated.
Ikimi also urged party members to cooperate fully with the disciplinary committee, as they began reviewing petitions in alignment with the party’s constitution.
“All offences and sanctions are clearly spelled out in the PDP constitution, and we will ensure all petitions are handled accordingly,” he added.
