Hi, welcome to Tech This Evening, an After-Work Tech Newsletter from Techparley Africa. Sure, there is a lot to unpack right now. Sit back, while I walk you through.

Top Story: UAE Startup AVELIN AI Secures $3.7M Pre-Seed Funding to Help Governments, Enterprises Take Full Control of Their AI

UAE-based sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) startup AVELIN AI has raised $3.7 million in a pre-seed funding round from unnamed angel investors. This marks an important milestone in the company’s ambition to redefine how governments and highly regulated enterprises deploy and manage artificial intelligence.

The fresh capital will support the company’s expansion across the Middle East, Europe, and North America, while accelerating the development of its proprietary AI technologies and infrastructure.

The announcement comes at a time when concerns over data privacy, regulatory compliance, and digital sovereignty are driving organisations worldwide to rethink their dependence on third-party AI providers.

Explaining the company’s vision, founder and Chief Executive Officer Yury Akinin said, “Enterprises and governments increasingly recognise that AI cannot come at the expense of security, compliance, or control.

“The era of renting intelligence from external providers is coming to an end. Organisations need AI they can own, govern, and trust. AVELIN is building the sovereign AI models and infrastructure that enables that future.”

Flutterwave Secures Circle Ventures Backing to Bring Faster USDC-Powered Cross-Border Payments to African Businesses

African fintech giant Flutterwave has secured a strategic investment from Circle Ventures, the venture capital arm of Circle Internet Group, in a move that could significantly reshape how businesses across the continent send and receive money across borders.

Although the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the investment is aimed at accelerating Flutterwave’s efforts to integrate USDC settlements directly into the payment infrastructure that businesses already rely on.

The partnership signals growing confidence in stablecoins as a practical financial tool rather than merely a cryptocurrency innovation.

By enabling merchants to collect payments in local currencies while settling transactions in USDC, Flutterwave hopes to reduce payment delays, lower transaction costs, and facilitate near-instant international settlements beyond the limitations of traditional banking hours.

Describing the development as a major step toward the future of global finance, Flutterwave Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Olugbenga Agboola, said the investment is “about backing the rails that will power the next era of global money movement from Africa,” adding that “stablecoins like USDC are no longer an experiment; they are becoming core financial infrastructure.”
