Top Story: Luno Is Democratising Access to US Stocks Through Tokenised Investing, Expanding How South Africans Invest
South Africans are increasingly turning to tokenised stocks as a gateway to global investing, with new data from digital assets platform, Luno showing growing demand for fractional access to some of the world’s largest companies and investment funds.
The company revealed that more than 50,000 customers have invested in xStocks since the product launched in August 2025, highlighting a rising appetite among local investors seeking exposure to US equities without the traditional barriers associated with offshore investing.
xStocks are digital representations of publicly traded US shares and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), allowing investors to gain exposure to global markets through a simplified, mobile-first investment experience.
“xStocks customers hold a combined R200 million in tokenised equity assets on Luno. Around 15% of these investors are entirely new to Luno and came for tokenised stocks,” said Christo de Wit, Country Manager for South Africa, Luno.

BibliU Raises $55 Million to Scale Higher Education Infrastructure and Build Operating System for Universities
BibliU, a higher education technology company focused on simplifying access to course materials, has raised $55 million in new funding as it accelerates its expansion across universities and college systems in the United States and beyond.
The round was backed by BlackRock, existing investor Stonehage Fleming, and other institutional investors. It comes as the company reports more than $100 million in annual revenue and over 100 per cent compound annual growth over the past two years.
The latest investment reflects growing investor confidence in BibliU’s vertically integrated model, which combines digital course material delivery with physical campus bookstore and retail operations.
“Several years ago, we made the deliberate decision to expand beyond digital course material delivery and build a truly vertically integrated model, one that combines our technology platforms with full-service campus retail operations,” said Dave Sherwood, CEO of BibliU.
