Hi, welcome to Tech This Evening, an After-Work Tech Newsletter from Techparley Africa. Sure, there is a lot to unpack right now. Sit back, while I walk you through.

Top Story: Aions Ventures Launches $6.1M Seed Fund to Help South African Startups Scale Beyond Early Growth

The newly launched fund will target startups operating in high-impact sectors including the digital economy, climate and environmental sustainability, energy innovation, and alternative water solutions.

Beyond providing capital, Aions Ventures says it will offer founders hands-on operational guidance, financial oversight, and strategic support designed to prepare businesses for future funding rounds and long-term commercial success.

Aions Ventures is a South African venture capital firm focused on identifying and supporting high-potential startups capable of delivering both commercial returns and measurable social impact.

“South Africa has significant entrepreneurial potential. The challenge is to convert that early promise into investable, scalable, and commercially sustainable businesses. That transition is where many companies struggle,” said Kerryn Campion, Chief Operating Officer at Aions Ventures.

The event, held on June 3, brought together entrepreneurs, investors, business leaders, and industry stakeholders as selected founders presented their businesses, growth strategies, and long-term visions before a distinguished panel of judges.

Beyond the capital awarded, the occasion highlighted the increasing role of founder-support ecosystems in helping African startups move from survival to sustainable scale.
