Global payment technology company Mastercard has announced a strategic collaboration with Egypt’s Export Development Bank (EBank) to accelerate digital payments, strengthen financial security and expand access to innovative banking services across the country.
The partnership will leverage Mastercard’s payment technology, expertise and value-added services to enhance EBank’s debit, credit and commercial card offerings, attract new customer segments and improve digital payment experiences for individuals and businesses.
Building on their longstanding relationship, the agreement will introduce improved capabilities in areas such as digital security, fraud prevention, customer rewards and personalised financial services, reflecting both organisations’ commitment to advancing Egypt’s digital transformation and expanding the adoption of secure electronic payments.
Strengthening EBank’s Card Portfolio and Market Reach
Under the agreement, Mastercard will support EBank in expanding and improving its existing card portfolio, covering debit, credit and commercial payment cards.
The collaboration is expected to help the Egyptian bank reach new customer segments while developing financial products that better address the needs of individuals, consumers and businesses.
By leveraging Mastercard’s global payment infrastructure, technological capabilities and industry expertise, EBank intends to strengthen its competitiveness and broaden the range of services available to its customers.
The initiative will also build on the organisations’ existing cooperation in card payments and value-added services, providing a foundation for deeper collaboration across Egypt’s evolving digital financial ecosystem.
What the Ebank-MasterCard’s Partnership Introduces
A major component of the collaboration is the deployment of Mastercard’s technological capabilities in tokenisation, fraud detection and risk management to strengthen the security of EBank’s payment services.
Tokenisation replaces sensitive card information with unique digital identifiers during payment transactions, helping to protect customers’ actual card details from potential exposure.
Similarly, fraud and risk management solutions can help financial institutions identify suspicious activities, assess transaction risks and strengthen safeguards against unauthorised payments.
Through these capabilities, the partnership aims to provide customers with safer and more seamless digital payment experiences while reinforcing confidence in electronic financial transactions.
These improvements are particularly important as digital payment adoption continues to expand and financial institutions face increasingly sophisticated security challenges.
Why this Matters for Customers
Beyond improving payment security, the agreement is expected to enhance the overall value EBank customers receive from using its financial products.
Both organisations plan to support more personalised card offerings designed around different customer categories, purchasing patterns and spending behaviours.
Customers are also expected to gain access to periodic promotional offers, discounts and relevant lifestyle and commercial benefits through Mastercard’s loyalty programmes and other value-added services.
The approach reflects a growing shift in the banking industry towards customer-centred financial products that offer more than basic payment functionality.
By combining payment convenience with incentives and additional benefits, EBank hopes to make its card services more attractive while encouraging greater engagement with digital payment channels.
Positions Partnership as Part of Digital Transformation Strategy
Commenting on the agreement, Dr Ahmed Galal, CEO and Managing Director of EBank, described the collaboration as an important milestone in the bank’s strategic growth ambitions, particularly as it continues to expand its national network and digital touchpoints.
“As EBank advances its strategic growth roadmap across our expanding national network and digital touchpoints, this collaboration with Mastercard marks a pivotal milestone,” Galal said.
He explained that combining EBank’s expertise in corporate and export banking with Mastercard’s global capabilities would strengthen the institution’s position in digital financial services.
“By combining our deep expertise in corporate and export banking with Mastercard’s global capabilities, we are positioning EBank as a premier engine for digital transformation,” he added.
According to Galal, the partnership will ensure that customers have access to internationally competitive payment solutions that deliver greater security, convenience and practical value.
Reaffirming Commitment to Digital Payment Innovation in Egypt
For Mastercard, the collaboration represents another step towards supporting financial institutions in modernising their payment services and responding to changing consumer and business demands across the Middle East and Africa.
Mohamed Assem, Mastercard’s Country Manager for Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria, said the company remains committed to supporting growth through technology, innovation and industry insights.
“At Mastercard, we are committed to enabling growth through technology, insights, and innovation,” Assem stated.
He noted that the agreement would help EBank advance its payments strategy, strengthen its card portfolio and introduce more personalised experiences for consumers and businesses across Egypt.
The partnership comes amid increasing demand for digital financial services and electronic payment solutions in Egypt.
By combining EBank’s banking expertise with Mastercard’s international payment capabilities, both organisations aim to support the country’s broader digital transformation, encourage financial innovation and deliver more secure, accessible and rewarding payment experiences.
