Hi, welcome to Tech This Evening, an After-Work Tech Newsletter from Techparley Africa. Sure, there is a lot to unpack right now. Sit back, while I walk you through.

Top Story: EduTransConnect Secures N1M DBN Grant, Sets Sights on July 2026 Launch to Make Student Travel Safer.

The funding came through the Development Bank of Nigeria’s Entrepreneurship Training Programme (ETP) 8.0, a flagship capacity-building initiative for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) that combines intensive business training with a competitive pitch process.

For EduTransConnect, the grant represents more than financial support; it is a validation of a solution built to address the safety, coordination, and accountability challenges that thousands of Nigerian students face when travelling between campuses and their homes.

The founder and CEO of EduTransConnect, Chisom Dexter Olocha, in an interview with Techparley Africa, noted that the startup plans to deploy the funding towards platform deployment, onboarding verified transport partners, and activating its student ambassador programme ahead of launch.

“I pitched at the Development Bank of Nigeria’s Entrepreneurship Training Programme, ETP 8.0, at their Anambra cohort. It was a Shark Tank-style format, three rotating panels over a three-hour window, each founder presenting according to assigned pitch slots,” he explained.

Kenyan Startup Terrafy Wants to Turn Africa’s Rural Land Into Trusted Assets for Banks, Insurers

Kenyan startup Terrafy has launched a platform designed to build what it describes as the “trust infrastructure” needed to connect underserved rural landholders with financial opportunities.

Founded in Nairobi earlier this year, Terrafy is developing parcel-level land intelligence infrastructure that digitises, verifies, and monitors rural land parcels, creating trusted records that financial institutions can use with confidence.

By combining field data, geospatial intelligence, verification workflows, and monitoring systems, the startup aims to transform informal land information into structured, institution-ready records that can support lending, insurance, climate finance, and a range of other financial products.

Explaining the company’s mission, co-founder and chief executive officer Victor Shikoli said, “We digitise, verify, and monitor rural land parcels, transforming fragmented land information into trusted, finance-ready records that institutions can confidently use to support lending, insurance, climate finance, and other financial services.”
